A free five week programme for 18-26 year olds not in education, training or employment.

Learn the basics of creating RnB, Rap and Hip-Hop music including making beats, writing lyrics, recording, song composition and production.

No prior experience needed.  Lunch included.

One Voice

Crescendo, in partnership with Ministry of Social Development, is launching a NEW 5-week programme: One Voice.

An introductory free music programme based around R&B singing, rap bars lyrics and beat production. 

You will learn the basic origins of hip-hop, the transformations of artists through time and their diverse lyrical styles. As a group, you will actively collaborate to complete one music track (that may vary per student and ability level).

You will learn:

  • New technical skills in songwriting and song structure
  • Stage presence and performance
  • Gain insight into audio engineering equipment, tools and music production
  • Communication skills, collaboration and problem-solving
  • Practice self-reflection to help build self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience 
  • New positive health and wellbeing tools and practices
  • Upskilling and preparing rangatahi for employment pathways

At the end of this 5-week programme you will receive Crescendo’s Certificate of Achievement, a digital copy of your track (or collaboration), a tour of one of Auckland Live’s venues and an opportunity to apply for employment directly with Auckland Live.

Programme Structure:

This programme will run for two days a week for five weeks

Programme Dates:

Thursday and Friday 2pm – 6pm. Next Intake starts May 2nd 2024.

Mentor Bios

Paki Dunn

Paki is a proud Maori man, an established hip-hop artist with over 20 years’ experience and pillar on the local scene. He has released numerous solo projects, collaborated with producers and artists internationally and locally, plus performed all over the country. Paki is honoured to be giving back to his community and our rangatahi by sharing his experience and passion for hip-hop, music, songwriting and artistic creation as a whole.

 Jasmine Pene

A proud Wahine Maori, Jazo is born and raised out South Auckland, in Mangere and Papatoetoe. Her passions stem through music production, beat making, singer, songwriter, live performance and organising hip-hop and R&B music events. Jazo is passionate about sharing her skills and experiences with rangatahi to enhance and nurture their journey with the beauty and healing of music.
